Our very special guest today was Scott Marcin, District Governor of our very own 7090 and a member of the Amherst South Rotary Club. Mike Harrington, Assistant District Governor of Area 16 and President of the Westfield-Mayville Club for the third time introduced Michele Starwalt-Woods of the District Public Image Committee and is transitioning out of Membership chairman while preparing for District Governor Elect, who then introduced Scott!

Scott attended West Seneca West High School, then UB, followed by law school at Cleveland Marshall. He passed the bar and practiced for several years, then changed to financial planning, now with Vision Financial Group. He joined Amherst South in 2012, became secretary, then president-elect and has had a lengthy run as president. He’s very proud of their Bowl-a-thon which provides the funds for their many other projects. Scott is most proud of their Club’s sponsorship of the very active Buffalo State Rotaract club. Scott is also a PHF +3.

Scott’s wife Amy passed away one week ago of breast cancer. They have twins and Scott has a dear dog Manny.

Scott stated, "My Rotary family has been a tremendous personal support in the past few weeks. Rotarians really support Rotarians.

Thank you to Jamestown Rotary for all the wonderful things that you do for your community and around the world. He is proud to be your District Governor.

We have 70 clubs and 2,000 members; I’m leading a group that is full of leaders already following the tenets of Service above Self and the Four-way test. Our members see problems, seek solutions, and deliver action to meet those challenges. You can go anywhere and see the Rotary insignia and drop in for the meeting, and you immediately have a group of friends."

Scott spoke to the honor of leading 70 Clubs in Western New York. He considers it the ultimate honor to be a Rotarian at this time of 45,000 Clubs and 1.4 million members.

Please continue to create hope in the world and continue to change lives.

Rotary International’s President has asked us to focus on mental health issues as he lost his own brother to suicide, which no one expected. Pay attention to each other and how we seem to feel and interact.

Develop your own elevator speech for Rotary – which is hard for Rotarians because we know how much Rotary does in the world for all of us. Try and put what Rotary means into a 30 second speech – it’s difficult.

    Remember these upcoming dates:

    • April 20th - The kickoff of the Great Lakes Watershed Cleanup - One of Rotary's single largest Environmental Service Projects, started by our own PDG Frank Adamson, from Fonthill RC.  Get your club together for this project to help clean up our most precious resource or collaborate with another club and do not forget to invite a friend.
    • April 26th and 27th - The Rotary International D7090 District Conference.  Make plans to join our Friday Rotary Foundation Celebration in Silo City, where we get a chance to honor those who made great contributions to the Foundation, and then come on out on Saturday, at the Northwest Amherst Community Center, for a full day of Rotary with the conference's focus on the issue of Mental Health.  There will be plenty to learn about and service projects to participate in and plenty of fellowship and fun with your Rotary friends.  If you have never gone to a District Conference, make this your first.
    • As always, all these events can be registered at our District Website, along with other District offerings at www.rotary7090.org.
