Members of the Rotary Club of Jamestown, NY, and their Brazilian exchange student Joachin Caparroz participated in the Jamestown Community College Citizenship Day recently. With up to 200 8th-11th grade students in attendance from local schools, the group heard a presentation by Andrew Beiter of the RFK Human Rights organizations, then participated in a scavenger hunt around the campus, followed by a luncheon and an international student panel consisting of JCC international students.

Organizations participating who are connected to human rights were the Robert Jackson Center, the Jamestown Human Rights Commission, Journey’s End, the Rotary Club of Jamestown, the YWCA, and the Zonta Club of Jamestown. The group representatives were stationed at different locations on the campus and the students had to find them to ask them questions. The intent was to inform students about the human rights related work that is being done by people in the Jamestown community.

Rotarians also set up a display that showed the focus areas of Rotary. Each participating student had to find the answer for “What is the Four Way Test?” Each student was given a flyer with the 4 Way Test and the Object and Mission of Rotary as well as additional information on RYLA, Jr., and Student Exchange.

The event was very well attended with over 100 plus students wanting to learn about the exchange program. Exchange student Joachin was extremely helpful in delivering information to the students.
